Unwanted Pregnancy : Queries

The procedure of the ending of Pregnancy by removing the foetus before it can survive outside the uterus is known as Abortion. Similar procedure of the removal of foetus after it can survive outside the uterus is known as Late termination of Pregnancy.

In some cases, abortion happens on its own. This spontaneous abortion is known as Miscarriage. But sometimes women choose termination of pregnancy by taking medicine or getting surgery. This is known as Induced abortion. The earlier you are in pregnancy, the risk will be lower and you are likely to have more options.

The Abortion procedure type depends on the weeks of pregnancy of the woman. There are mainly two types of Abortion.
  • Medical Abortion: This involves taking medicine for the termination of Pregnancy
  • Surgical Abortion:  In this procedure the fetus is surgically removed by a minor operation such as vacuum aspiration or dilation and evacuation (D&E) that may be done with a sedation or local anesthetic.
Surgical abortion is the only option after 9 weeks of pregnancy because the risk from having an abortion is higher in second trimester than in first trimester. During the late second trimester and early third trimester (24 weeks) abortions are done very rarely. In many countries abortions are restricted after 24 weeks.
Will Abortion affects future pregnancy?
An abortion will not affect a women from becoming pregnant later. It almost takes 1 to 3 weeks to get heal after an abortion right after that itself you can get pregnant.

Is Abortion Safe?

Usually abortions are safe if it is done in the first trimester because at this stage this procedure can be done by a vacuum aspiration or using a low-risk medicine. Abortions done by an experienced gynecologist  are also safe.

Restoring Virginity with Hymenoplasty

The advancement in medical science and treatment technology has widened its scopes to procedures such as revirgination. A procedure of revirgination in women, hymenoplasty involves a simple surgical procedure where the hymen is restored. Hymen is a thin membrane present inside vagina that breaks during the initial sexual intercourse.
Hymenoplasty is also known as vaginoplasty, hymen reconstruction surgery or revirgination procedure. Reconstruction of hymen restores it to the virgin state and will cause bleeding in the subsequent intercourse. Virginity is considered with a great deal of importance in many countries. The procedure helps in restoring an intact hymen to appease these cultures.

The practice of hymenoplasty or any other procedure of hymenorrhaphy is banned in many countries and is often associated with considerable social stigma. The procedure is however legal in India. The tear in hymen can be caused as a result of strenuous or sport activities or due to injuries in the area, and not just through sexual intercourse.
The procedure of hymenoplasty involves a simple process which can be completed in about half an hour to 45 minute. It is done under anaesthesia and involves a surgical process to put back the hymen together to the previous state of virginity. The skin membranes are reconnected with the help of dissolvable stitches which dissolves automatically once the healing process is completed.
The procedure of hymenoplasty when done by a skilled professional appears as natural as normal intact hymen. Subsequent intercourse after the procedure would incite pain and bleeding as natural as in a virgin. The procedure is virtually short and risk free with no particular complications associated with it.
Hymenoplasty has a very speedy recovery process and requires a hospital stay of only a few hours. However, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to heal completely.

Safe Medical Termination of Pregnancy

A medical termination of pregnancy or abortion refers to pregnancy termination process done due to certain circumstances by nonsurgical procedures. These are performed in the initial stages of pregnancy, specifically before the completion of 7 weeks of conception.
The procedure involves removal of the pregnancy tissues by administering drugs to terminate the unwanted pregnancy. The procedure can be conducted within a day and do not require a long recovery period of hospital stay. Abortion can be either done medically with the help of pills or by surgical procedures during the period of 9 weeks to 20 weeks.

Medical termination of pregnancy in India
The period of pregnancy is counted from first day of the last periods of the woman before conceiving.  Though the World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved medical abortion or MTP till 9 weeks of pregnancy, the law in India approves MTP only till 7 weeks or 49 days of pregnancy. However, abortion can be done with the recommendation of doctors up to 20 weeks of pregnancy in India.
Medical Abortion Procedure
The procedure associated with the medical termination of pregnancy (abortion in Mumbai) involves oral administration of mifepristone tablets initially. Misoprostol tablets are then administered through oral, sublingual, buccal or vaginal means. The vaginal administration is found to be more effective with very low risks of side effects.
The procedure can be done in a single day and do not require hospitalisation. However, if complication like persistent bleeding, fever lasting over 24 hours, general discomfort and so on are evident, medical attention is needed. For pregnancies over 7 weeks of conception a combination of medical and surgical abortion is performed.
Benefits of Medical Abortion
Medical abortion is a relatively simpler process when compared to its surgical counterpart. The benefits of this procedure are as follows.
  • Do not require an invasive procedure
  • Can be manged at home with proper motivation and counselling
  • Does not require hospitalisation
  • Bleeding can be well controlled with menstrual pads.

Regain Your Confidence With Cosmetic Gynaecology

‘Beauty Conscious’ has become a catchy word in most of the spheres of life. When it comes to women, it is clearly evident. This is where cosmetic gynaecology comes to the rescue. Cosmetic gynaecology is a fast developing branch of medicine wherein the beauty of the woman is taken care of while dealing with other gynaecological issues.
Cosmetic Gynaecology deals with the appearance of the genital organs of a woman ranging from its size and shape to symmetry. This is an elective procedure in the sense that no medical condition necessitates this procedure. On the other hand, it can be done if the woman feels she wants to have it.

Cosmetic Gynaecology Procedures:
Vaginal cosmetic surgeries include hymen reconstruction or hymenoplasty, clitoral unhooding and G-spot amplification. Hymenoplasty involves the reconstruction of the torn hymen and restoring it to the original condition. It is also called re-virgination. Surgical removalof the tissues that cover the clitoris is known as clitoral unhooding. This process is usually done using a scalpel or a laparoscope. The front wall of the vagina is injected with collagen, which is believed to increase the sexual pleasure, in G-spot amplification. These surgeries are usually short and may take up to 3 hours to get completed.
The patient may return to normal state in a few days. However it is advised to refrain from sexual activities for around a month. Though cosmetic gynaecology is widely followed, it is advisable to avoid such treatments and instead choose to have a few exercises suggested by a gynaecologist to attain the desired results.

Dr. Niraj Mahajan is a famous gynaecologist, who is well versed with the processes involved in cosmetic gynaecology and is a very busy medical expert in this field.

Clitoral Hood Reduction in Mumbai

Clitoral is the most sensitive and erogenous zone in female where eight thousand of nerves end. Most of the women achieve orgasm by the stimulation of clitoral. The clitoral hood is the tissue which covers and surrounds the clitoris.
Women can develop with uncomfortable and unsightly clitoral enlargement due to abnormalities in hormone, intake of steroid, or birth. The protruded large clitoris look like a small penis and it gets larger when sexually aroused. Such unsightly appearance reduces the self-esteem since it protrudes in the clothing.
Clitoris looks uneven or enlarged due to the excessive skin on the sides of the clitoris. It is often combined with a malformation of labia minor (smaller interior vaginal lips) which could be hypertrophic or asymmetric.

Clitoral reduction operation is the procedure of repositioning the protruding clitoris and reduces the projection and length of the clitoral hood. Some women normally have mild clitoral enlargement who need not go for such reduction procedure.
Clitoral Hood Reduction Surgery does last for one hour under local anesthesia. The clitoral hood is made with the horizontal incision. The prepuce projection is reduced and excessive tissue is removed through the incision. Finally, the incision is closed with dissolvable sutures and dressed.
After the clitoral hood reduction mild swelling, bruising with minimal discomfort will be felt. It is advised that after the surgery to take immense rest and try to avoid strenuous work. An ice pack will help to reduce the swelling.

After two to three days one can get back to regular works. No irritation or protrusion will be experienced after the surgical procedure.
Reaction to local anesthesia, infection, asymmetry and wound separation are the rare risks involved in clitoral hood reduction.
Dr. Niraj Mahajan Clinic is a Famous Gynecological Center in Mumbai which is run by Dr. Niraj Mahajan who is an experienced Gynecologist and Laparoscopic surgeon has been performing many surgeries particularly clitoral hood reduction in a high ratio.
